Notice that I said "your manuscript," for truly, it must sell itself. Regardless of who you know or how persistent your agent is, the manuscript must be good enough that publishers can see how it can be sold. (One of the reasons you should avoid buying fiction by celebrities is because the author's name may have convinced the publisher that the book will be commercial. Entertainers and rich socialites don't know any more about writing fiction than most beginners, so publishers often hire ghost writers to write the book that will carry the celebrity' s name.)
