In essence, a choice of law clause in the parties agreement cannot be read to require the application of another state's child support guidelines, especially if all the parties have left that state. See Restatement (Second) of Conflict of Laws 187, 188 (1988) (providing that the court shall apply the law of the state chosen by the parties in most cases, unless that state has no substantial relation to the contract or unless the law of that state offends a fundamental policy of a state having a greater interest in the particular issue); see also 1 Homer C. Clark, The Law of Domestic Relations in the United States 1.9 at 48 (2d ed. 1988). Indeed, as noted in Hale v. Hale, 33 Kan. App.2d 769, 771, 108 P.3d 1012, 1014 (2005), a UIFSA case, although there are circumstances in which courts, and parties to a certain extent, may choose which states law will apply in a given dispute, when the choice of law is dictated by statute, courts do not have the authority to contradict such mandates.
